CYTOMEL-T3 is not an anabolic/androgenic steroid but a thyroid hormone. Its composition includes synthetically produced liothyronine sodium, which mimics the natural thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (L-T3). A healthy thyroid typically generates two key hormones, the more commonly known L-thyroxine (L-T4) and the previously mentioned L-triiodothyronine (L-T3).
CYTOMEL-T3 serves as the synthetic version of L-T3 and triggers the same bodily mechanisms as if the thyroid were to enhance its output of this hormone. Notably, L-T3 is significantly stronger and more efficient than L-T4, leading to CYTOMEL-T3 being more potent than commercially available L-T4 products such as L-thyroxine or Synthroid. L-T3 has been shown to be 4-5 times more biologically active and acts more rapidly compared to L-thyroxine (L-T4).
In conventional medicine, CYTOMEL-T3 is prescribed for thyroid deficiency (hypothyroidism), which can lead to various secondary problems including obesity, metabolic issues, and fatigue. Bodybuilders utilize these effects to boost their metabolism by taking CYTOMEL-T3, promoting a faster breakdown of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Increased lipolysis, or enhanced fat burning, particularly draws the interest of bodybuilders. Competitive bodybuilders often rely on T3 (Cytomel) in the weeks leading up to competitions to sustain low body fat levels without needing to resort to severe caloric restrictions. Athletes who combine low doses of Cytomel with steroids report greater effectiveness of the steroids, likely due to the more rapid protein metabolism.
Many bodybuilders featured in "muscle magazines," who exhibit a defined physique, often consume fast food and counteract it with CYTOMEL-T3. The overstimulated thyroid accelerates calorie burning like a furnace. These days, athletes are increasingly opting for Clenbuterol instead of CYTOMEL-T3, and those who combine these substances can achieve substantial fat loss. Cytomel-T3 is also favored among female bodybuilders. Given that women generally exhibit slower metabolisms than men, achieving the desired competition form can be particularly challenging under current standards. By taking CYTOMEL-T3, they can avoid drastic reductions in caloric intake below 1000 calories per day. While women may be more susceptible to side effects than men, many manage well with a dosage of 50 mcg/day. A short-term use of CYTOMEL-T3 at an appropriate dose is certainly "healthier" than engaging in an extreme caloric deficit.
Regarding dosage, caution is essential since CYTOMEL-T3 is a potent and highly effective thyroid hormone. It is critical to start with a low dose and gradually increase it over several days. Most athletes kick off with one 25-mcg tablet daily, then increase the amount by one tablet every three to four days. A dosage exceeding 100-mcg per day is unnecessary and not recommended. Splitting the total daily dose into three smaller portions is advised for greater effectiveness. Importantly, CYTOMEL-T3 usage should not exceed six weeks, and a minimum abstention period of two months should follow. Prolonged high doses of CYTOMEL-T3 can lead to chronic thyroid insufficiency, possibly requiring lifelong thyroid medication for the athlete. A gradual reduction of the dosage is crucial, done by cutting down on tablets rather than stopping abruptly. It is also advisable for those considering CYTOMEL-T3 to consult a physician to rule out any existing thyroid hyperfunction.
Potential side effects include: heart palpitations, shaking, irregular heartbeat, heart discomfort, anxiety, breathing difficulties, sugar excretion in urine, excessive sweating, diarrhea, weight loss, psychological issues, and hypersensitivity symptoms. Based on our experience, the most common symptoms are hand tremors, nausea, headaches, excessive sweating, and increased heart rate.
These adverse effects can often be mitigated by temporarily lowering the daily dosage. Those using T3 for several weeks may notice a reduction in muscle mass, which can be avoided or postponed by concurrently taking steroids. Since T3 also metabolizes protein, athletes must emphasize a protein-rich diet.
